Keepers to the Fire of Life

This piece is an inspiration from my imagination and is a wonderful representation of the style of work I enjoy the most. I love the process of creating a piece of work that tells a story or one that takes you on a journey of sorts to a place away from your own current position in the world, even if only for a moment. I like the challenge I give myself in creating a piece such as this and one that I enjoy the process , the tools, what the piece has to say and wants to add to the story. ‘Keepers to the Fire of Life’ is the 3rd piece in my ‘Around the World Series’.

Spring brings about change, life, renewing and transformation from what may have been a very cold, dark winter and all the emotions that may keep us from running at our highest during the winter months. This piece represents the will, power, fire and energy to new life and transformation.

In the winter renewed life and transformations sleep and rest deep within the ruins beyond winters reach storing up the seeds of renewed life and stoking the fire waiting to burst into form with mighty will, wisdom and power when the time comes. Life is sacred. Renewing and transformation are sacred.

What is it within you needing life or renewed life? Do you have the will, power, fire and energy to bring about the transformation? Will you seek the wisdom you need to bring about those changes in the rebirth of spring?

The Messengers

At the end of each year, I always make sure my house and other areas of my life are back in order for the holidays. For me, this helps to bring in the new year and the opportunities it carries and whatever they may be and the energy they carry flows better when this is in order. They have room to roam so to speak. This piece called, ‘The Messengers’ is such a piece. I had been worried about my creative journey and some other things and being very hard on myself. Searching for answers and guidance I finally got it and within 7 days all of the animals in this piece came to my backyard.

First, the deer showed up across from the window of my studio. He stood ever so steady and silent for several minutes just staring at me when I came to the window to

see him. His message was to remind me to be gentle with myself and mindful of the grace and gentleness that echoes the qualities brought forth when living from the heart. Also reminding me to look from a fresh perspective on things which no longer serve me and distance myself from them, I can be determined but yet gentle at the same time. Trust my instinct when using my senses and intuition to reach farther out and to always remember to find rest and peace in silence, which I haven’t done enough of lately.

A couple of days or should I say nights later the two owls showed up having this very gentle yet chatty conversation outside my bedroom window in a tree. They reminded me of my inspiration and to keep exploring the unknown and the magic of life, which I often say about flowers. The beauty those blossoms can present from such a tiny little seed is truly magical indeed. These two owls for me also represent winds of change and to always listen to my intuition and the ability to see what others do not see.

Finally, a couple nights later the coyote brought his message, stopping to howl what felt like in between the 2 spots of the other animals and closer to the house. The coyote reminded me to keep things simple when possible and to be open to possibilities. Don’t take things too seriously, keep the humor and bring more balance between wisdom and playfulness.

I know for some this post may be a bit ‘out there’ but I think when one takes the time to really ‘listen’ for the answers and guidance we seek they are presented to us in the best attention-getting ways as possible. My takeaway from these encounters is to not beat myself up too much and keep things simple and playful with a little humor thrown in. Continue to be wise, determined, strong, cautious and always follow my intuition, create from the heart and always no matter what stay true to myself.

I hope you enjoyed this post and if you have thoughts please share them in the comments. Also if you want to get my blog posts and newsletter in your inbox you can sign up for them at the top of the page. Thanks so much for being here and taking the time to read the post.

This original art piece is 18x24 mixed media on Canson Mixed Media paper. I used watercolor, ink, and Prismacolor Colored pencils.

Look Book Series 12: Odyssey

Unlike, 'The Odyssey' as told by Homer, the story of warrior Odysseus' ten-year journey home from Troy, My 'Odyssey' is one of a quest of self-discovery, a spiritual wandering through the layers of my soul.

©2018 Kimberly McGuiness
Seemingly always searching for something I have yet to discover, or allowed to be discovered. Searching for what I do not know that I need, or do I? Yet I keep searching through the depths, digging through the rubble to find what I'm looking for, that which I do not know what I'm looking for...so I keep digging. Digging until it hurts too much to move forward, then I stop.

Do I go in another direction ? Leaving behind the possibilities of what could be? For me the path is ever evolving, changing with hills, mountains, turns and twists. There is no particular path but instead one of self-discovery, care & love.

A continued journey of hope and seeking that little light showing you, all will be ok. You are on the right path. You are doing the right thing. You matter. You are making a difference and that sometimes doing the wrong thing is the right thing to do and vice a versa.  All will be ok we are all made of stardust.
